Stihl KMA 80 R Cordless Kombi Engine Unit

The Stihl KMA 80 R is the first true multi-task engine in the AK System, designed to replace up to 14 separate petrol tools with a single, high-torque powerhead. Purchasing this as “Body Only” is the ultimate move for existing Stihl users; it allows you to utilize your current AK 20 or AK 30 batteries to power everything from a pole pruner to a leaf blower. Unlike basic “all-in-one” multi-tools, the KMA 80 R features an intelligent EC Brushless motor that automatically adjusts its torque based on the specific KombiTool attached. It recognizes whether you are spinning a lightweight nylon trimmer head or a heavy-duty soil cultivator, optimizing power delivery to ensure Constant Power throughout the battery’s charge cycle.

• Dual-Stage “Hybrid” Throttle: The KMA 80 R features a unique control handle with two distinct modes. Eco Mode (Level 1) caps the RPM to 6,000 for light tasks like grass trimming, doubling your runtime. Full Power (Level 2) unleashes the full 7,000+ RPM required for demanding tools like the BG-KM blower or the BF-KM pick tines.

• Tool-Free “Cam-Action” Handle Adjustment: This isn’t a fixed loop handle. It features a new quick-release clamping lever that allows you to slide the handle along the shaft or rotate it 360° without reaching for a wrench. This is vital for maintaining ergonomic balance when switching between a long hedge trimmer and a short edger.

• Symmetrical Intake Cooling: To prevent the motor from overheating during heavy “clog-prone” tasks (like tilling or sweeping), the KMA 80 R utilizes a symmetrical cooling fan. This pulls air evenly across the electronics regardless of which side you hold the tool, preventing the thermal shutdowns common in cheaper battery multi-tools.

• Full KM-Attachment Backwards Compatibility: Unlike many competitors that change their coupling systems, the KMA 80 R is 100% compatible with almost every existing Stihl KM attachment (except the FSB-KM). This means your old petrol attachments from ten years ago will snap directly into this modern battery engine.

• Short-Chassis “Pivot” Balance: By moving the battery slot closer to the coupling, Stihl has created a shorter lever arm. This makes the tool feel lighter when using long attachments like the pole saw, as the weight of the battery acts as a direct counterweight to the cutting head.

• IPX4 Rated Battery Housing: Even though it’s part of the homeowner AK System, the KMA 80 R is built with professional-grade moisture protection. The battery housing is designed with internal drainage channels, allowing you to finish the job even if you’re caught in a sudden downpour.
